You Can Now Get Pink KitKats Made With ‘ruby Chocolate’

I have a confession to make: While I adore Nestle KitKats, their commercials used to send me into a rage. I could not STAND the sound of people crunching and gobbling their chocolate wafer bars. Ew. Stop. It’s terrible. Seriously. WHY?! All of that snapping and crunching is enough to make me lose my mind!

Well, I have some good news. Nestle is making up for these annoying commercials by releasing some of the prettiest candy I have ever seen. They are pink-hued KitKats and I don’t know if I want to eat them or frame them. (OK, OK, I want to eat them).

Barry Callebaut

Not only are the new KitKats pretty to look at, but they are also record-breaking. This is the first time in 80 years that a new kind of natural chocolate has ever been on the market. That’s right, this beautiful pink chocolate isn’t the result of an artificial dye. It’s called ruby chocolate, and it now joins the illustrious ranks of milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate.

What is ruby chocolate? Made from “ruby beans,” the rose-colored chocolate debuted last year when Swiss scientists at chocolate supply company Barry Callebaut finally perfected this creation. Ruby chocolate doesn’t just stand out because of its appearance. It also has a distinct taste, one that is fruity and lusciously smooth.

But despite its rosy hues and fruity taste, no fruit or coloring has been added to the ruby chocolate. Magical! Here’s what the Barry Callebau website has to say about ruby chocolate:

“The Ruby bean is unique because the fresh berry-fruitiness and color precursors are naturally present. The cocoa beans are sourced from different regions of the world. The bean has a specific set of attributes, which Barry Callebaut managed to unlock through an innovative process that took many years to develop.”

The pink KitKats made of this delicious ruby chocolate are being launched in Japan, where KitKats are hugely popular. Japanese candy lovers can choose from about 300 different KitKat flavors, including cherry blossom and wasabi. One Japanese candy shop even sells KitKat sushi!

While the ruby chocolate KitKats aren’t currently sold in stores in the U.S., you can buy them online from the Nestle Japan website. When you submit your email on the site, the company will send you a message with details on how to make your purchase.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and these imported pink KitKats are the perfect gift for your special someone—so hurry up and place those orders ASAP!
