Check Out This Quick Guide To Eliminate The Word “Um” When You Speak

Saying filler words like “Um” can easily creep into your vocabulary when talking. Unfortunately, using those filler words can make you sound less sure of yourself and take away from your credibility.

The London Speaker Bureau provided this great graphic with tips on how to avoid the “Um” word.  Some of them are pretty standard like slowing down and thinking through your thoughts ahead of time.  There are also a few interesting ideas like keeping your sentences short and not to have your hands in your pockets while speaking.

Fast Food Chain Lets Chicken Run Their Twitter Account

No this isn’t a joke. Chicken Treat, an Australian-based chain food restaurant, lets a live chicken, fondly named Betty, tweet their messages.

“Even when she was little, she was a good egg,” states the ChickenTreatAU Youtube video.

So why is Chicken Treat doing this? They hope to make history in the Guinness Book of World Records and have Betty be the first chicken to tweet a real 5-letter English word.

Follow Betty and cheer for her on Twitter at @ChickenTweet and #chickentweet.

92 Year Old Woman’s Poem Reminds Us To Appreciate Life & Age Gracefully

Wanda B. Goines is one well spoken 92 year old woman. Titled, “The Gift Wrap & The Jewel,” Wanda’s poem reflects on life, aging, and internal spirit, presumably from her own experiences.

We all have insecurities about growing old. Her words are beautifully expressive and humbly true. A reminder to live each day to the fullest, may we all age as gracefully as Wanda.

DIY: Fix Things Anywhere With Portable Hot Glue Matches

As a kid, I loved using a hot glue gun for art projects. Now as an adult, I see it has more uses than just a science fair project and for Halloween costumes.

The only problem with a hot glue gun is you need an outlet to plug in the tool and get the glue super hot. And I usually only need a little dab to fix something.

After what feels like 2 hours (when in reality it’s only about 2 minutes) the glue is hot and ready to be applied. During the application process, I usually end up burning a finger and get it in my hair. Afterwards, the glue always oozes out of the metal tip a bit, making a mess on my counter that I have to scrape off with my fingernails for butter knife. Sigh.

Thankfully, Shake the Future has heard my cries and cleverly crafted Hot Glue Matches. It’s a genius idea – simply melt a bit of the glue stick with a candle (or the old-fashioned way, in your glue gun) and apply a dollop while hot to a wooden match, right below the head. Allow to cool and ta-da! A portable glue stick!

DIY: Make A ‘Walking Dead’ Brain Cake For Halloween

Are you looking for a Halloween treat to horrify (yet dazzle) your guests this year? With a little red velvet cake, fondant, and raspberry jam, you can accomplish just that.

Yolanda Gampp, from How To Cake It, shows us how to create a brain cake in her YouTube video. Her step-by-step instructions are simple enough even for beginner bakers to follow and the results are eerily terrifying.

Would you try to make this for your Halloween party this year?

If eating brains aren’t your thing, you could try Yolanda’s Fall Harvest Cake. It sure looks like a sinfully delicious treat as it’s a carrot cake with cinnamon buttercream, caramel, and sautéed fruit – yum!
