2. Oranges

I adore oranges, but hate the mess I make when peeling them. My hands get sticky and most of the juice is squeezed out because I’ve mangled the poor fruit. Rumble Viral has a simple way to make peeling an orange less time consuming and sloppy. All you need is a sharp knife.

4. Mangoes

Mangoes are delicious, but they can be slippery. If you’re not skilled with a knife, this tropical fruit can be especially tricky to peel. But not when you use this fruit-peeling hack that uses a drinking glass. Slice the unpeeled fruit into a few sections, and then let the glass do the peeling, as demonstrated in this video by Melissa Bailey.

5. Apples

Anytime you bring out a power tool to peel fruit, you know things are going to get interesting! While this technique may not be practical for an apple or two, it’s perfect if you have a bushel to peel (think: Thanksgiving pies). Get a power drill and a standard y-shaped peeler. Stick the unpeeled apple on the end of your drill and spin the peel away. Watch this video from Handimana to learn the trick.

10. Pineapples

11. Papayas

This fruit comes in its own bowl, so to speak. You can start eating the papaya quickly by just slicing it longways, scooping out the seeds and then spooning out the fruit directly from the skin. However, if you need papaya for a recipe, there’s an easy way to slice it. Once it is opened, partially cut into the flesh with a horizontal and a few vertical slices. Then, open it up and the slices will almost pop out. Life Hacks Extreme demonstrates the technique in this video.

12. Peaches

Peel peaches the same way as grapes: with hot water. SimpleVeggieMeals uses only a paring knife and a pot of boiling water to get the job done. Start with slicing a simple “X” in the skin at the bottom of the peach. Then soak in the hot water for a short time. Remove peach from the water, and the skin should peel right off. Again, this process is probably best for when you have a lot of peaches to peel, like for pies or fruit platters.

13. Pomegranates

Pomegranates are trendy right now, but preparing them can leave you scratching your head. Their hard outer shell makes it a challenge to get to the edible seeds inside. Try this technique from Food Wishes that uses a bowl of water and a knife. So simple and mess free! Yes, it’s not technically peeling, but it is removing the outer shell, so it’s close enough, right?
